"Questioned summit":
Comments of Viacheslav Skripko, head of International Everest expedition, 1999
Me and Borislav Dimitrov had a meeting with Ms.Elizabeth Hawley in the morning of June 4th. We sit in the restaurant of Sherpa Guest House Hotel. During the talk Gia Tortladze and somebody from Georgian's (I think, David) come in. They came to us and occupied the near table. Ms.Hawley asked to detail some information. She had the information from other climbers that only 3 Georgians were on the top. And she wanted to know if Gia and Merab were on the top. Gia began to explain but in too much words. He said, that they were in 40-50 meters from top point. This is absolutely plane place and it was not important if they were on the summit point. Ms.Hawley said that she understood everything and we were going on the talk about our expedition. I do not remember Gia offered her to look at photos from the summit.
